Grumpy Old Gits - Living up to their names

I'm sure some of you may know of the community known as Grumpy Old Gits. I have little knowledge of how they work and all but this is their way of welcoming people:

"We welcome both skilled players, and the not so skilled, the young and the old, serious gamer, and those who just play for fun. "

Now, onto the main attraction.

A friend of mine who happens to be the creator of the new Pyro item named Mishap Mercenary, was banned from their servers with the sole intention on playing like normal and showing off his new sparkly hat.
Their reason for banning him is for the sole purpose of him "being too good".

As you can see, it is no joke. They even try to lay dirt on him just because he happens to be friends with people who supposedly "caused trouble":

In other words, they fully acknowledge that Woolen is not responsible for whatever his friends did on the server, but to call him out for having a distasteful taste of friends? May I remind you that this is the internet, where we don't usually know each other in real life?
An opinion is an opinion, it does not matter if he finds your choice of friends distasteful.

You want to know what's really distasteful? The admin and his grammar that banned the player.

Let's cross-examine the reason.

* Bad impression with terrible grammar is a bad sign to start with
* The admin suspects him of cheating without any concrete evidence
* Tries to put dirt on him by mentioning meaningless things unrelated to the case at hand



...yeah. I'll just never set foot in such a despicable community I suppose.
Discuss n' share your opinions. And please, don't think I am trying to tell you guys to play there.
If anything I'd be yelling at you guys to stay away from it as far as possible.

After all, they fail to follow their own welcome ad that suggests they welcome everyone, but clearly this is a contradiction of that fact.

Also, response from the admin:

"Woolen,

I have spoken to the banning admin, and also taken input from other admins who were playing (including Red, the other GoD Admin).

It is clear that you are too good a player for our server, so yes, you would be reduced to playing shotgun heavy plus a few other admin restrictions (blind etc). We are not Skial or Lotus, we play in a very specific way, and to a comfortably low standard, and are happy for it to remain like that.

At the very least I am going to ask you to move on. This is not the server you are looking for."

Are you kidding me?


It's a play2win game, even the casual way on orange,dustbowl (and all other maps which aren't played "seriously")

 

+1 for community ban, these people don't deserve to run a community...

 

I would argue that these people have the wrong mindset for what community they are trying to drive.

TF2 isn't exactly the kind of game where you ban and kick players for being too good, you know?

It's the first time I've ever seen someone pull this off; it's like it's a kindergarden and that Woolen happens to be an adult. In real life that'd be understandable; an adult is too good and doesn't really have a place in the class in that sense.
But it's not. It's a first person shooter, grumps.

The goal I had when submitting this thread was to see yours and others opinions and thoughts on these actions because we are a community ourselves after all and these guys handle things in an entirely different manner.
And possibly advise you to stay away.

But Damien, I can't really say I blame anyone at this point if they desire to cause problems for them; with that treatment they handed out to Woolen.

It's one of those occasions where I can say "they deserve it".

But please, Cheeky especially since you mentioned, don't do that.
We're not children who runs around trolling other places.

So, because they wanted to make the experience enjoyable for everyone, you're going to RAID them, ruining the image of fog and their admins like a bunch of kids?

 

To be honest - talking about them and their actions here is fine.

I wouldn't provoke them, rather trying to talk and fix that out

 

Remember that I am not endorsing any raids on them, don't raise your pitchfork like that!

Here's where the crux of the matter is; if they really wanted to make it enjoyable for everyone, why should another person be banned?
Keep in mind this wasn't some troll or hacker or anything like that; it's another honest player who wanted to play just as much as the others did.

If the thread gets out of hand I will lock it by the way as I do not support of flame wars and alike.

 

I hate jumping bandwagons.

I get that it's casual and all but it's a bit silly expecting that you can publicly pit two teams together and they will have the same skill sets... even in a casual environment people gauge themselves to be better at the game in general, so giving a goal to strive toward will attract more returning consumers.

Not to mention Orange, a competitive map in a competitive game.

BUT, by all means, DO NOT be joining these servers and causing trouble... we're not fucking children so don't act like it.
