He absolute was aware the user was marked and had this planned days ahead of time and even went through with receiving the ring, despite receiving warnings from users on the backpack.tf forums ahead of time.

Irrelevant. You knowingly and willingly received an item that is unobtainable unless $100 is spent from a marked scammer.

 

Is this a joke? I've seen plenty of people getting "married" in game with marked users. This would be soo unfair for a mark.

It has a $100 value. If I am gifted a scammed item and get trade banned because of that does that item hold no value? No it still has value. Just because I can't move the item doesn't mean it holds no value.

 

He didnt trade with him, and he didnt make the scammer profit with it in any way. If you can be marked for this, then something is really wrong.

 

I think you really misunderstood the rule of "Trading with marked scammers".

The point of the no trading with scammers is to prevent scammed items from entering the market and hence lessen the incentive for scammers to continue scamming.

No, as it doesnt violate any rules unless there is a rule that says couples...etc cant send each other gifts. If this was a item which had value and could be traded away then it would be a different story as there would be no way to confirm if you bought via paypal or external source.

If the item you recieved had any value (even a scrap) and it could be traded you will definitely be marked

With reference with your quote if you read the admin's reply they will consider warning/tagging if the items/gifts recieved from a marked friends are:

"- All cash trades, with any value.
- Item trades, if above the worth of a Bills Hat, including all unusuals, max's and buds. (some Unusuals are less then a Bills)"

Again repeating myself again as there would be no way of confirming if they actually paid for the item via external source, which are 2 very different cases as in this case what was recieved has no value and cannot be traded.
