Hello guys, since a lot of people have been arguing in the shoutbox about TGB, i think that it would be best to make a thread about it than the shoutbox getting closed.

To start of, this thread is under protection of [IMG] Which means that i will close this thread if a shitstorm appears, until a moderator or alike decides what to do.

Since i am mostly neutral on this matter, this will be a vote of the people.

The arguements as to close TGB, and i quote Zefeel here: "Look, there are PLENTY of websites where you can do this, but we are trying to start an image change, we are a steamrep partner community and we should behave like one" Along with "Its like a tumor for the Forums" Even though i am one of the most active members in TGB, I still feel the same way. TGB doesnt do anything good, but yet it keeps the forum alive and makes people laugh quite often.

There really arent any arguements as to keep TGB up, and not deleting it. Exept for "It's funny" and "It keeps the forum alive"

Feel free to comment what ever you want, but just keep it friendly.

I'm not against the TGB, as its there if you need to "let yourself down".
But I wouldn't be sad to see it go.

Neutral. I may change my decision later after the "majority" has voted.

Well, atm i'm in the middle.
I don't know what to pick tbh.

I agree TGB can give you a giggle but i don't get why it can ruin our image with SR.
But, TGB doesn't really add anything tbh to people who need to shitpost.
I know, i might sound hypocrit. But i'm neutral for now.

I wouldn't happy if it would stay.
I wouldn't be sad if it was gone.

If people want to shitpost, there are other websites. This is a forums for our community. Do we want a bad image because of all those racist jokes or offensive threads? If they want to post it, let them do it elsewhere.
    +1 To go.

I'm neutral but just to add one thing- Manco.trading has a thing similar to TGB. They are a partner community almost from the start. Also Is protected, you only click if you want to.

First question: "Why was The Great Below created?". Because there was too much spam in other threads that came in the latest posts list on the front page. People didn't like that, so n0name came up with a solution. A protected sub-forum which doesn't count for anything (posts, latest, etc). It clearly states that it isn't monitored, which means it's the perfect place for everything otherwise not allowed. Also, it can only be shown if you create an account here (which isn't that hard), but still good enough so people who visit us don't immediately go and think "Oh, this community is so racist/childish/bigotted/whatever and the mods don't do shit about it, think I might as well go ahead and find me another community."

    I say let it stay.

    Heavily Neutral.
I like that place, but it's worthless and only has bait and approxiativly 1swear every 7.78words.
Expect me to be far less integrated then.

This is a great point that deserves to be highlighted.

YOU wanted the great below which actually works out great; it has reduced spam and dumb posts dramatically as the great below has absorbed these instead.
Are you gonna be ruining harmless fun for our community members and betray your own ideals while giving the public a message that says "We can't decide"?

    I say let it stay.
Don't visit it if you don't like what you see in there; you know what to expect after all.
You only have yourself to blame if you are unsatisfied with what you see in a place that is working out as intended.

It's like going to 4chan's /b/ board and getting angry over what you see.
    What'd you expect?

Here's what my current thoughts are :

TGB is an awful place that was made specifically as a dumpster, so all the porn, memes, dumb jokes and r34 stay down there and keep it from spreading to the other threads, it serves no practical purpose other then a "garbage" filter.

It's HEAVILY pointed out to be a non-monitored, non-modded place where everything goes, it was made for people who like garbage and that is why no sane person would take it into account when they're judging the community. But no sane person is gonna go down there, so we're pretty safe in that regard.

It doesn't harm the rest of the forums though, everything else is crystal clean. So, no, I'm not for the removal of it, it should stay and make sure all of the garbage filters there.

There's no point in us alienating a part of the community that likes memes and jokes just because we don't.

tl;dr - All the bad sides of TGB are only apparent when you go there and the good side is that it's keeping the forums clean.

    P. S. I may sound harsh, but I really dislike memes and that stupid crap, but that's just me. Everyone's entitled to having their own opinions and their own senses of humor, just because I dislike what someone else likes, doesn't mean I should tell them to go away and disrespect them.

TGB Was made so the fuck ups of the forum, you know who you are, could feel special and have their own fucking place where they don't have to spread bullshit to the other threads, this makes us look bad, we're no better than 4chan or some other bullshit site.

I don't have much to say except that I used to post there a lot but it got cringey and embarassing so I stopped.

I don't see how it can be so bad, many forums have it and we have it protected and not counting towards post count, we don't force TGB against you, such as putting it in the top ten etc. If you don't like it, stay away from it.

It's not adding to post count, it's not visible in last posts. The people that are annoyed by it just need to stop entering it. What's the problem?

Could it be possible to put an option to the settings to enable or disable The Great Below?
It's still doing its work tho.

Just remove the damn TGB, we don't want immature people as admins anyway.

The problem is nothing but trivial concern.
It basically sums up to "I don't like the existance of a sub-forum that doesn't bother anyone, has a straight-foward policy that I can only be bothered by if I choose to visit it".

Honestly, TGB comes in useful when you want to share or talk about things that don't fit in other sections.
It doesn't necessarily mean it is immature.

It is like you guys fully accept being something like reddit, and I don't doubt that some of you even regulary visit it. The great below makes me cringe so hard I can not even explain it. Its nothing more than embarrassing, and I am sorry but if TGB does not get removed I see no reason to stay with a community which behaves like a 12 year old child looking for its daily dosis of memes on 9gag.

I suggest we let everyone state their opinion without being aggressive. You aren't providing any good arguments with your post, saying that it makes you cringe or saying it's turning this site into reddit isn't a valid point

It is embarrassing to have a section just so some people can share their not so funny and unoriginal memes and have a fuckfest. "But zefeel ignore it" I can't, I have been a member for a really long time, I have donated, I was an admin I saw this community and it has changed, its not better now its worse. Why do you think we are, all of a sudden, losing members? We lost 4k members within 3 months, and the number is still falling. Maybe its because some people saw how immature some admins are in the forums and on the server, got sick of it and left. You are doing something wrong, and TGB is part of it.
