    Good evening,

I'm new to the forums so I don't know if this is the right place for such a thread. If not, please move/remove ;)
Originally I didn't even intend to become active here, but you guys got me curious.

How did FoG come to be?

    • Was there a Steam group or something else in the beginning?
    • What was the original purpose for it?
    • Was TF2 the game FoG was made for? If so, why was CS:GO included?
    • How did FoG become SO BIG?

    And lastly,
What drives members to be active on the forums?

I'd really like to hear from the older members how the whole thing started :]
    Greetings, Julius

I dont really know, honestly. I might've foretold the demise of this place, though it never came to be.

I only found this place because i couldnt sleep at night and i stumpled upon this community just randomly. I dont really have a drive to remain active, i just want to have fun with the friends i made here.

On the first day, Gabe Newell made the game.
On the second day, Gabe Newell made the players.
On the third day, Gabe Newell disappeared without a trace.
On the fourth day, Gabe Newell came back and brought us hats.
On the fifth day, Gabe Newell ate a family sized pizza all by himself.
On the sixth day, n0name made FoG and Gabe Newell did other things.
On the seventh day, FoG became bigger and so did Gabe Newell.

And then things went somewhere from there on.

Wew, it's been a while since I've read that post.
It's a good read for anyone wondering about my rise to power and how this shithole came to be.

Well not many of FoG v1 members remain, FoG v1 ended with a bang.
N0;names old post summons it up quite well however we are kinda multi manager community now, the downs came in like a wrecking ball.

I'd like to say that FoG has been quite a drama adventure.

It's not necessarily a bad thing because in the end, you get to know what people really are made out of.
I started out as a simple regular sniping with a piss rifle.

It escalated into becoming a junior admin of trade

Today I'm probably seen as one of the older members now, having been here for at least a few years and made some real good friends around.

It's really a good community in my eyes in spite of all the dra-

    wait what's that

At one point there was a 15(?) year old called speedy who deleted a lot of forums posts "accidentally", so there's some history for you

    The tale of FoG history:

    FoGv1
This was the original form of FoG, it mainly consisted as how we have FoG nowadays but with less servers and based as a TF2 community only. I think it started in the beginning of 2011, I self joined around half/end of 2011. The community had 2 leaders n0:name (we all know this guy) and Punisher. After some arguments Punisher decided to shut down the whole community which left us without a home. We gained a lot of members on our steam group which was thanks to n0:name, who made a tool to mass invite people for it (doesnt work anymore). This caused popularity to this community. We also had forums on this community, but since it was shut down we lost most of the data of it.

    Fanatix
This was our first solution for this problem. A new community, a new name and part of the old members. But now managed only by n0:name. This was a smaller community because of the lack of the large steam group. I guess it never was a great success and caused us to collaborate with another community

    Extreme Networks (ENW)
This was the community which we collaborated with, I think Downcorp came in around this time. We have had been part of this community for a short while before getting access back to all the FoG stuff.

    FoGv2
This is FoG as we know it nowadays. It started halfway 2012 and lasts till today (and hopefully way longer). We are finally back into our old form, a lot of members returned back to us after finding out FoG was back again and a lot of old regulars met again. Ofc not everyone is around anymore, but there are still some people hanging around from FoGv1, however there are not much left. Where before FoG was about TF2 we got a lot of extra servers and games added to our portfolio, maybe the most well known additon is CS:GO.

FoG has always been a community to bring people together who liked the same games. I hope we can stay this way for a very long time and everyone will find his or her place. Our number one should be fun!

Thanks for the replies guys, especially to @n0name@n0name and @chickpoint@chickpoint. That's what I was looking for :]

Drama seems to be a thing in every online community, I've seen it myself quite often. By any chance, it isn't this Punisher you were talking about by any chance? (His name used to be Punisher for years)

One might wonder why I'm even asking these questions.. Well, I'm still interested in the admin position the FoG Bhop server. And since I gotta become active here, I thought I might as well find out more about the community I'm joining ;)

    Side note:
You can still get stuff like this to work, I modified a steambot to mass-invite people. Not on such a large scale, but it can be done for like up to a thousand people if you give it some time.

I believe it only works for groups with <1000 members. We're 278 times bigger than that.
