Implemented Surf Server Ideas

Here some thoughts/ideas I got from time to time:

1. Add the Tier in the mapname when voting.

1. surf_mom_ [Tier 2]
2. surf_aircontrol [Tier 1]
3. etc.

Reason: It will give a slight knowledge of the map before you vote. (Example: People vote for mesa_mine, thinking it would be as easy as mesa. (which it isnt at all))


2. Add a whisper command like !whisper and it will give you a list of names which you can select from and whisper to. To respond to a whisper maybe !w, to be quicker.

Reason: If someone wants to ask someone else something, without telling 42 other people, he'd surely be happy to have such command.


3. Add a autochat command with the most important commands. (!r for mapreset, !b for bonus, !rtv for rock the vote, !tutorial to learn surfingetc.)

Reason: I play a lot on the server and I hear a lot of "im stuck, how do i reset?", "i dont like this map." so people wont have to ask for everything if its already in the chat.


4. Add noclip for normal users.

Reason: People without the funds to pay for VIP want to get to know a map they dont know aswell.


5. Higher penalties for micspammers

Reason: Many people start spamming again after the 1h mute. So if someone is muted and spams again the temporary mute will go from 1h to for example 2h then 4h then 8h...


If any of those suggestions were already made I'm truly sorry.

thanks for the commitment to help the server improve.

1. we had the tiers behind maps and chose to deactivate it since potato's tend to just vote for tier 1 maps (kitsune, fruits and stuff like that). Since we changed it, there's a higher variety of maps being played - which IMO is way more fun.

2. could be a cool thing, eventhough I mostly message with people via steam. Dunno if it's worth the work to implement something like that.

3. Isn't there already a command spamming !help which shows every command?

4. Could be implemented I guess.

5. I always mute them and if I see the same names some days later, they get banned for 48 hours. We might need 1-2 another admins on there to keep the spam level on a minimum though.

 

Concerning the first suggestion:
Last time we tried this potatoes were also able to vote, right? (correct me if I'm wrong). They aren't anylonger, so it might be good enough to add this again?

Another thing which could be done though (which I think should be done either way) would be to make the !mi command able to tell information about another map, than the map currently being played.

 

I agree. Ill tell venom to be a bit harder with spammers in case he wont read this.
PS: I said in my introduction that i want to be the second surf admin and i will go for it if i feel like people will actually vote for yes.. though i dont know how i would be able to tell :I

im not sure what you mean with "potatoes were also able to vote"? they are still able to vote for maps. would be a bit cruel if they wouldnt..

 

you won't be the second admin though, since there is already 3 including me

OT: make sure to keep being admin and I don't see any problems
@Uglefar I don't get it as well. potatos were always be able to vote.

 

For real? Well if that's the case, definitely keep it as it is and not show the tiers while voting.

 

Regarding 4. If the potatoes want to learn a new map they can use !cp. Noclip is not a good way to learn a map imo

 

Like said above, we had this for some time and it didnt work out that great since people always voted for the easiest maps. I would keep it as it is right now since we have a decent variety being played.

That sounds like a nice feature ( Even though i prefer steam message aswell ). Depends on how much work it would be to implement.

We already have global server messages for most commands and there is also a !help command that shows you a list of all available commands.

I suggested that a while ago. Noname denied it cause he didnt want everyone to fly around the map . I still think it would be nice to have.

The !r might conflict with the restart-command

 

Sounds like a plugin that could be used on every other server as well.

 

About the micspammers, wouldn't it just be possible to mute someone who holds in the mic for more than 60 secs? Just for about 10 minutes?

 

I think that shouldnt be implemented.. maybe 3 minutes but not 60s.. Some people might be telling a really long and intresting story

Yeah, but i don't see what the song length has to do with anything?
Shouldn't it be stopped before the ending?
I said 1 and a half because a song is mostly 3 minutes long, so stopping it somewhere in the middle should be fair, right?
