Okay so I'm completely new to this stuff and google does not help me with giving me multiple, therefore confusing answers. So I'm planning on buying a gamepad because I'm starting to have more and more racing and platformer games which is (IMO) better with a controller than with a keyboard. So I just wanna ask something first that might cause a war, PS3 or Xbox 360? Then, when I bought it, do I just plug it in and done or do I need some drivers for that to work? Or anything else? xbox 360 controller is built for human hands, the ps3 controller has midget handles forcing your little and ring fingers to have nothing to rest on When you have it, just plug it in and google the controllers driver and there you go^^
XBOX Far easier to learn new controls. I play both XBOX and PS and XBOX is waaaaaayy easier to learn the ropes with. IMO. Or you can buy a Steam Controller....
I do own a PS3 and a Xbox 360. And i must say, that the PS3 controller is better (IMO) However, if you're going to play games on Steam you should probably use a Xbox 360 controller, or even buy a steam controller. Can you not?
I'd recommend using a wired Xbox one, the price is generally cheap depending on where you buy it (I bought mine from Amazon personally) and all you need to get it working for pretty much 70% of Steam games (excluding a few, Bioshock Infinite for example despite having controller support wouldn't accept it) is the necessary driver, which can be found on Microsoft's website, somewhere. My one works fine for Dark Souls, Skyrim, Team Fortress, Binding of Isaac, Don't Starve and so on.
xbox just because it requires barely any setup (when I borrowed a friend's wired controller all I had to do was plug it in and off I went), whereas a ps3 controller requires all sorts of setup that's a pain (use wired controllers ofc)
Whichever controller suits you, I personally use the 360 controller (make sure it's a wired one, or you'll be forking out £1502352 for a wireless adapter and batteries). I know the 360 controller is a plug and play, as for the PS3 I dunno.
PS3 is the worst controller anyway in my opinion. The way buttons are placed just... it's just stupid and uncomfortable...
So I read this and some other threads from other forums as well, and yeah, xbox winner. So I bought it yesterday, didn't need to do more than just search for a driver which took me a humongous amount of time, 5 minutes. It's awesome. I didn't know that the placement of the left thumbstick means this much, I can say that I'm pretty sure I wouldn't feel my thumb after a week with the PS3 controller after trying it out in the store. My thumb started to hurt after 20 minutes of playing. The midget handle part is also true, when I got the xbox c. in my hands after those 20 minutes with the PS3 one, I felt like I'm in heaven. So I played my games I used the keyboard for with my new baby, and shortly, it was thousands of more fun. Thanks guys <3
I'd pick xbox solely because I have one myself plugged into my computer, it's better because it's well-optimized, plug & play basically. Still, though, I'd choose a ps3 controller for my console gaming at any given point in time.
