Ohai there. I'm making a suggestion mostly regarding the oh so very talkative surf 1-2 server. Lately, I've encountered situations numerous times of where people have heated discussions in the german language, thus making themselves immune to punishments during the discussion as it takes a long time to get the video uploaded & translated. This is issue number 1, also the main issue I have with two different languages being used. The admins become vulnerable.

Reason number two. There can be several individuals involved in conversations on the server, and they get interrupted by another group starting to speak another language (wether it's german or english).

Reason number three. It oftenly discourages people who communicates with english. This one really doesn't need to much explanation, joining a server whilst a german conversation ongoing as a new player & you don't speak the language will definatley discourage one from playing on the server if their preference is social surfing.

Conclusion. I believe that allowing two different languages on a server when everyone has the basic knowledge of the same language only complicates situations. Also making the administrative work tougher & could be distruptive to nice conversations ongoing. Well, this was basicly it, I'd love to hear your opinions on this matter & feel free to vote.

Edit; Adding a little bit to reason 1. Whenever the german language pops up during a conversation, it's usually a triggering factor to people making jokes directed to WW2, usually leading to permanent bans being dealt out.

I support this suggestion very much. Plus this:
is very true and I have encountered such incidents a lot. Restricting the german language to the chat only would take a very long time for people to adapt though, which is why I'd say that every admin should not mute for "new" rule breakers (german talkers in voice) for at least a month or so! Just remind them that there was a change in rules.
Otherwise I wouldnt see any other issue for this to take immediate effect. English has proven to be the universal language in Europe and everyone knows a bit of it. So to keep the voicechat open for everyone and make it english only, it might be a good call.
    I do want @Venom@Venom s opinion too though :]

My opinion is surely biased, but eh. I'm just going to sit on the fence >.<

I agree with the above and below statements.

I would agree to this, pretty much because of reason number three, I've had numerous times when I was on and having conversations and it just suddenly switched to German and I felt like I couldn't talk or anything because I had no idea what was going on,

But I also agree with the other reasons also, my main support is due to reason 3.

Sounds good tbh. My German is sometimes too broken to understand what people are saying exactly. Especially in voice.

    I can't seem to find #3 anywhere ;/
Even though I understand some German, it is frustrating not being able to participate in dialogue

    Calling Switzerland on this one

The german/english only rule is here since a long time and I don't think No:name wants it to go. (Otherwhise he would've changed it already a long time ago.)
A good compromise for that would be the rule that if there is no german Speaking Admin assigned to the Server, german would be disallowed.
    For example:
On 2fort it would be allowed, since I'm Admin there, but on Hightower it wouldn't since only Ham is resposeable for it.
It would solve the Problem that non-german Admins would have to ask other Admins that have nothing to do with the Report or the Server for translating help.

This is a suggestion regarding the CS:GO surf server(s). Not TF2. Also, continuously allowing/disallowing the german language depending on whoever's on at the current time would just be confusing.

    This here
    ---INTERMISSION---
Plus it's only in the voice chat and still german/english in the text chat. So germans still will be able to do their thing. Just not in the voice

Even tho this is for the CS:GO servers and not the TF2 servers, I'm still part of the Community and can write my opinion.
The thing I wrote with 2fort and Hightower was just an example.
Also I didn't write the Admin has to be online for the rule to take effect. I meant a German-Speaking Admin just has to be assigned to the server for German to be allowed. He doesn't have to be online at the time.

What Sweden is saying is that it would be too confusing for people to know when they can speak German, when an admin is on, WHO admin, which ones are comfortable in understanding German, which one's aren't, etc etc etc.

Maybe just add a [Ger] Tag in the Adminlist on the people that speak German well. And again. Those Admins don't have to be online on the server. They just have to be assigned to the server.

I don't think you guys understand me correctly. >~<

That does not help any way, if you need a german admin to be assigned. Lets say surf gets one, that admin could possibly be offline for a long time, and the players will be able to speak German but they other admins may not be able to get him to help with a situation, it still has the same issue that SpaveN, lele still wont understand whats happening, it will still interrupt others who dont understand German etc, so it is a possible fix but its got too many flaws in my opinion.

    Hey,
interesting suggestion, I've thought about that myself lately. My thoughts:
    - Negative: A major part of the community is German, and has been able to have voice conversations in German for a long time, which possibly presents the only negative aspect of such a change (as far as I can see). It's not so easy to predict how the (German part of the) community will adapt...
    - Positive: I'm absolutely convinced that such a rule would yield an improvement in terms of minimizing toxicity, whilst possibly engaging more people in conversation. Let alone the fact that many admins don't really understand the language well enough to judge how positive/negative someone in voice chat currently is.

I find this idea excellent. SpaveN's point is very good, I think that this would be a great opportunity to make the community bigger, because when there are multiple languages allowed on the server there are some people who would see this as a reason not to join the server since they would not understand what is going on and find it very confusing to hear 2 languages at once. This would also help the Germans who do not speak English well to improve. I would be prime example of this, my English was terrible when I first joined the community (and it still is.....) by looking at my earlier posts and how I talked in game you can see this and how I have improved. Of course there will some people who speak German that wouldn't like the idea, but over all I think it would be great to get different people from different countries all speaking one language to fully communicate with the community and not feel excluded because everyone would be speaking one language. Furthermore it gives everyone the opportunity to improve their English.

Heard about this on the server and I cannot agree more, hence I suggest creating a static set of time were the admins are well aware of the punishment level at what date, because overtime people will start to see it as a "loophole" effect in causing "damage" with "further on-notice only" will latley cause extra work in disputes management at any type of guideline/rule. Disclosure; it happend to my old Gmod community and I was in the middle of 45 staff members in confusion, bullet clear understanding is key when considering growth and scaling of any object, from top to toe, cheers.

Considering this is a pretty big rule change affecting all our CS:GO servers (to keep the rule set consistent), I am going to leave this thread open until Thursday (June 1st) ~7PM CEST.
This gives enough time to gather enough feedback, looking good so far though.

As for the rollout, I would do a 2 week grace period, where the rule change isn't 100% enforced (unless the person is trolling/intentionally breaking the rule).
After that, German in voice will be handled like every other foreign language so far.

Once this is implemented, an announcement will be made in our public Steam group, as well as admin channel in Discord.

You can also get the message on the chat as a rule update so people would actually see it and make it repeat every 1min or so
