As of Oct 22 trades will be confirmed through the Steam app.

C&P from my thread on SteamRep about this:


Just made a trade after Steams downtime today, and I noticed a message similar to:
"After October 22nd accounts with Steam Mobile Authenticator will have to complete this step through the mobile app."


This should hopefully eliminate the majority of "forward your confirmation email" scams. I'm also assuming this will be October 21st in most timezones because I'm in Australia btw. If I find more information on this and post here.

Personally, I always have my email tab pinned on Chrome, so confirming a trade through mobile authenticator will probably just be a hassle.

I am all up for anything that may potentially reduce scammers though.

Yeah but have fun with Steam Support, its basically a "Free Pass" for them to ignore you.

 

Although I do agree it would be a hassle, it really will prevent some cases of scamming, which I am guessing is what steam are aiming for.

You underestimate the sheer stupidity of the populace on Steam, they will just get even more creative, and get scammed in EVEN DUMBER WAYS

 

Can't think of a way that this makes it easier to get scammed to be honest. At worst, it makes it harder for scammers to come up with a story about how they need your phone for this shit.

It's to seclude the cases in which people are not careful with digital goods (which is exactly the opposite of what we're trying to accomplish with SR; preventing scams of all kinds as much as possible). If you insure a phone and keep throwing it against the wall to cheap out on the company, you can expect them to put limitations on your next warranty extension.

 

it was a joke on the expense of all the dumbasses who still manage to get scammed even though there are so many failsafe's put into place to prevent this sort of thing anyway because children don't know jack shit about the internet so they trust anyone no matter if they have to put in a code somewhere, I fucking guarantee you that they will somehow manage to get convinced by anyone that they have to [do exactly what they're not supposed to do], and get scammed anyway regardless of these new improvements
