I've been visiting the forums alot lately and I've began to wonder about the things that could make it better, and more enjoyable for others. until i realized that my idea's are dumb. HOWEVER maybe you have an idea that would add on/improve upon the forums in certain aspects/ways. so lets hear it! be it bad, good, or neither. its an idea nonetheless. and if they are good enough, maybe N0name might consider it. so without further ado lets go wild!ok, not too wild

This is a somewhat broad statement coming from someone who just signed up to the forums.
Honestly, the forums itself are fine, it's some of the people who need to improve.

There isn't enough entertainment or discussions around here, every thread gets old in a matter of hours. There's really nothing to keep you around here.

An issue related to this is that back in the day, we had a forum game that did get a lot of attention but in the end met its demise and was closed as the OP felt the thread had become the reason of a big argument in a bad light.

Strangely enough, it was played by the rules but the one issue the higher positions had with it was that it "manipulated post-count and contributed nothing and was abused by members who wanted to get in the top 10 posters and would hurt our image".
While the other side argued that "Post-count is not the reason we spammed it, it was for entertainments sake".

Why did I mention that old thing?
Because today it just seems that if you come up with a thread that has the potential of being posted frequently on or frankly any topic that can be discussed great lengths; it will be regarded as spam for some reason.

I can guarantee you; if I made a forum game that was "Last post in this thread wins" it would probably be subject to a large amount of posts, but that'd be the "point" of it; anything goes as long as it'd be the last post.
But today it'd be just seen as spam.

@Jozzeh@Jozzeh, I was never against spammier threads, games or such.

The problem I have with them is because I don't enjoy them, I enjoy talking and discussing things with you guys more, you can see that I am one of the most vocal people when it comes to threads like the TGB discussion.

    @Wandolf@Wandolf

I wasn't saying you were against it; I merely mentioned something related to the topic at hand

Not so long ago I was contacted regarding "spam" despite it evidently being me just discussing several topics - it basically mentioned my name many times in the post list and several members started to say things like "Jozzeh spam is real".

And I didn't make posts that went "k" or "yeah i agree" or anything less, I always voiced an opinion that had a pair of legs to stand on.
Heck, I even asked Watson if I could post a gif image to express joy on an issue being fixed, but ultimately I was told not to.

It is slowly and steadily improving which is a good thing however!

I just believe that people need to cease lashing out at each other and not be afraid to voice out their opinions, no matter how different they may be.

Another issue is that some members just don't manage to keep their composure during a debate, but they aren't necessarily in the wrong - they might be the one who actually has the good argument but because they can't stay calm they lose a lot of credibility.

It's essentially the people who keep you here.

--- More forum moderators... The thread today got out of hand and DarkRegen had to close it himself, which is good he did.. We need Forum Moderators with correct permission to handle the situation faster.

--- Also I love to make more threads to make the forums a bit more active but I feel like a spammer then, what do you guys think?

--- We also need to improve on trying to bring players from the servers to our forums, I myself made a bind that says to have a look on the forums. Maybe a !forums command would be good (Not sure if this exists already)

Well, let's add a "games" subforum to "entertainment".

Regarding high activity forum games; I offered to create a section for forum games where posts would not count but would still show up on the 'Latest posts' section. However, this idea was quickly gunned down suggesting the thread's primary function was not to entertain forum members but to legitimately gain high quantities of posts.

Let's not bring this up again, though.

As for more forum moderators; this forum has a very thin line between moderation and censorship.
The thread today was not much more than a slightly overheated discussion, I was going to close it but multiple members asked me not to. Last time I removed a discussion like this from someone's admin application where it didn't belong at all the entire forum exploded,
More moderation is not always the answer.

    Quality over quantity, Downy.

If we're to get more moderators it really needs to be someone that fits the job, simply put.

Also, I like Snak's bind. A neat method to try and endorse the forums.

i think we should try to implement a !forum command, and advertise it on FoG servers, that way more people may see this place.

however we must keep in mind that this may attract unwanted folks

The forums are already being advertised, but who or what would you define as "unwanted"?

I myself asked nername about it, and as far as I know it's not meant for our admins to set up a bind for that at all. We do indeed have the chat thingy, that says that you can join our forums today if wanted. It's not a job for the administrators to send up a bind and basically provoke players to get on the forums.
Now, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against this, but nername said that it's more like a deal where you get to KNOW people on the servers, and therefore try to get them on the forums. The more you get to know them, the more it's possible that they'll join the forums, and most likely stay on the forums, instead of signing up and never coming back.
