    The idea is that the thread has not been used in awhile and its just a way to boost your posts. It's generally frowned upon in most communities, just try not to do it cause it gets sorta annoying.

    Ah, thats one part of I suppose..

    but no, necroposting is frowned upon because reviving old threads brings them to the top again - basically recycling old content to the top of the thread roster.

    No one wants to be reading old news.

    Also as a suggestion; why not have a thread auto-lock after about a week of no replies?
